I'm not sure I have ever been so damn afraid in my life. I think I may go completely insane if I don't share my fears with someone.

My mother thinks she may have had a mild stroke over the weekend. She's having some difficulty closing her left eye, and there is some obvious weakness on the left side of her face. She can communicate without any problems, so there seems to be nothing wrong with her cognitive functions. Her speech has a 'lispy' quality, but that appears to be from the left side weakness. She didn't tell me about this until Saturday night, even though she felt something 'off' during the night Thursday/Friday. I begged her to go to the doctor 1st thing on Monday... she REFUSED to be taken to the Emergency Room. The doctor visit was a complete cluster-fuck of EPIC proportions.

She called the Dr office, said 'this an emergency, I need to see the dr, I think I've had a stroke.' The reply 'oh, well if you get her by 2 pm at the latest, it's possible that we can work you in.' Mother was there by 12:30, and wasn't put in an exam room until 1:45. When the dr finally sees her, he half-ass listens to her listing her symptoms, checks her pulse and listens to her chest. He writes out a whole list of prescriptions, doesn't tell her what a damn one of them is for, says 'we'll see if we can schedule an MRI.' He hands her the scripts and her chart and sends her to check out.

How dare this man call himself a doctor, much less be able to sleep at night knowing this is the quality of care he gives his patients? I understand that he has a lot of other people to see each day, and yes my mother was a 'work-in' but how can he feel confident that he did the best job that he could do if he spent less than five minutes with my mother and didn't explain anything to her? Half of the medicines he prescribed were medicines she was on previously, but had to stop taking because they were no longer effective in treating her conditions.

Needless to say, mother is switching doctors and is going to tell her former doctor to 'go piss up a rope,' more than likely after she files a malpractice suit for gross negligence.

I am so worried that this is going to get much worse. I can't sleep for all of the horrible scenarios that are going through my head.
